About Us

Please find below information on our club. For regular updates on our activities and how to become involved please visit our Facebook page as this is updated on a regular basis.

The Southern beekeepers Association is a mixed group of hobby and commercial apiarist or bee keepers in and around Toowoomba. We are interested in all things to do with honey and bees and we are happy to educate new members and the public on the value of bees and how to work with them to advantage everyone. We regularly do public demonstrations, we also maintain club hives for training purposes, as well as holding information sessions and attending regional events.

The Club is actively involved with the Highfields Pioneer Park and Museum on Australia Day, The Easter Festival and on other days during the year when the Park holds functions. At this location we have a considerable amount of antique beekeeping equipment on display, some of which is actively demonstrated to the general public, we give live beekeeping displays at least twice a day and our Members are available to demonstrate beekeeping equipment and answer questions put to them by the patrons. In addition, we conduct honey and honey product sales which act as a source of revenue to cover Club costs.

The Jondaryan Woolshed holds its Annual Heritage Festival in late August to early September. The Southern Beekeepers are actively involved and man the beekeeping site for the entire nine days of the Festival. The Club activities are similar to those at Highfields, with Beekeeping demonstrations, antique beekeeping equipment displays and honey and honey product sales.

The Club works in conjunction with the Honey Court Committee at the Toowoomba Show. Honey sales are conducted and the Apiculture section of the Show is well supported by Club Members. The main aspect of the Show is the Clubs involvement with Agricultural Education (Ag Ed) where specialised members of the Club give beekeeping lectures to many hundreds of school children. The programme is extremely popular with schools from the local area and surrounding district.

If you would like more information don’t hesitate to contact the president.
